We, at the Peninsula Paddle are very happy to announce that Greg Bertish will be joining us to cross the flats via our urban waterways from Muizenberg to Milnerton. The South African big wave surfer and charity adventure man will be adding to the challenge by doing the paddle in his boat called the Little Optimist. The sailing dinghy designed for children up to the age of 15 is not supposed to be used in the open ocean or by men of his stature. However, that hasn’t (and won’t) stopped Greg!

In April 2016, The Little Optimist (and Greg) sailed from Cape Hangklip to Langebaan! A 200 kilometre journey representing the 200 days Greg spent in hospital after open heart surgery, where he grew a drive to help others. The journey managed to raise R300 000 for an ICU at the Red Cross Children’s hospital. Check out a short video of his journey here.

The paddle is only 33 days away and we are feeling inspired by Greg’s passion to make a difference. If you haven’t registered yet then go and so here! If ever there was a time to do the Peninsula Paddle it would be now! Our region is facing serious water challenges and it is only with the strength of the community that we can rise together to turn these challenges into opportunities.
